My technique
Find out what materials I use and how I do what I do.
All of my art work is alcohol ink based.
2018 was the first time I stumbled upon this kind of art and I immediately loved it for its flowiness, brightness and expressiveness (something I was trying to achieve with other media, but could never get it to feel quite right).
Although I live in the German capital Berlin, known among other things for its spectacular art scene, alcohol ink art was not well known and the supplies barely available. Even at the biggest and most specialised art stores, I could not find what I was looking for.
So I got my supplies online, followed by a long period of trial and error.
Experimenting, learning, feeling proud and joyful just as much as feeling frustrated, then amazed again.
Today, I have found what works for me.
I am very specific about the materials I use. I have trialed lots of paper and canvas options from various brands around the world.
Since my custom work for clients is entirely personalised and adapted multiple times during production, I work with synthetic paper that allows me to remove perviously poured ink again if needed. I also prefer non-structurised paper to allow the colours and shapes of the painting to shine in their full exquisiteness with not distraction.
I currently create most of my art with copic ink. I love their vibrancy and extensive range in colour palette. It is also important for me to see the colours in person before I commit to them and they are (gladly) available now in various stores in Berlin.
I use a variety of media, but began my work on canvas. In the beginning, it was challenging to learn how to properly prime and prepare canvas for alcohol ink. This is something I aspire to conquer this year.
